Speaker: Glenn Fawcett

Master Principal Services Consultant @CockroachLabs

Glenn Fawcett has 30 years experience tuning large-scale database systems.  He worked at a few startups in his early postgraduate years, but gained experience on high-end database performance at Sequent Computer Systems, Sun Microsystems, and Oracle.  During his years at Sun, he performed the 1st world record TPC-C on the Sun Starfire / E10K system and set numerous records on TPC-H and application vendor workloads.

During his years at Oracle, Glenn was part of a team that focused on rolling out the Exadata platform and helping customers understand which workloads best match the unique architecture.  His primary focus was running POCs with customers to prove the overall performance of the system.

After Oracle, Glenn moved into the world of NewSQL databases working for MemSQL/SingleStore and now CockroachDB.  Distributed databases are very powerful, but introduce new challenges to customers.   Glenn works with customers to architect solutions using distributed SQL across multiple clouds.

Glenn’s tenure was working with Oracle databases, but has experience running on multiple RDBMS systems: MySQL, Postgres, Oracle, Sybase, SQL Server, Greenplum, MemSQL/SingleStore, and CockroachDB.

Glenn maintains a database blog “glennfawcett.wordpress.com”, presents at conferences, and assists customers to achieve the best performance possible.  These efforts combined with his past experience got him inducted into the prestigious Oracle "Oak Table" which is made up of database scientists that focus on ways to achieve the best overall performance.
